More than 1 million COVID-19 cases were reported in the United States over the last 7 days.

As cases continue to increase rapidly across the United States we want to bring you our suggestions on how to Thanksgiving safely this year whether you’re “guest-ing” or hosting.

Hosting Do!

Hosting Don't...

  • Limit your guests- Keep it minimal. Consider having family you don’t see regularly join by video chat.
  • Set expectations ahead of time- Set some boundaries that are good for everyone’s mental and physical health. Keeping firm rules in place will keep everyone on the same page.
  • Avoid contamination whenever possible- Designate a select few to handle all food and drink items.
  • Make it disposable this year- If you’re sharing delicious meals it’s going to be safest to use single use objects such as paper plates, cups, plastic utensils, etc.
  • Be too inviting- Limit one bathroom and one gathering space inside your home.
  • “Serve yourselves!”- Just like the preparation of the food, plating should also be done by the people you’ve appointed. (Implement the same rule for beverages.)
  • Make your home too comfy- Limit your guests stay and make a schedule. (An hour after desert seems like a perfect time to kick everyone out for a food coma nap to me!)

Guesting Do!

Guesting Don't...

  • Pot-luck style- Bring your favorite dish with you. This is never a bad idea.
  • Picnic time- Move your holiday outdoors if weather permits! (Let’s be real, Texas will probably be perfect for an outdoor thanksgiving this year.)
  • Maintain precautions- Keep your distance, keep your hands clean and keep that mask on when you’re not eating.
  • “It’s probably nothing”- If you have any symptoms you should stay home. Please get tested and feel better.
  • Expect normalcy- This is a big one. We won’t be hugging our families this year or crowding the kitchen with each other. It’s important to remain cautious even if it feels “normal” for a little while.
  • Mind your manners- Even though as good guests our first instinct is to help clean up, we must resist! (Unless you are part of the appointed kitchen team.)
